EVs-DexP is an experimental, orally administered drug delivery system developed by researchers at Southern Medical University for the treatment of IgA nephropathy (IgAN). It consists of dexamethasone encapsulated within extracellular vesicles (EVs) isolated from orange juice. This approach leverages the gut-kidney axis by targeting Peyer's patches in the intestine, where the EVs are taken up by lymphocytes. By delivering dexamethasone specifically to these mucosal immune sites, the therapy aims to suppress the production of pathogenic IgA and reduce renal IgA deposition and proteinuria, offering a more targeted and potentially safer alternative to systemic corticosteroid therapy.
