Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EVX-301 is a proprietary intravenous infusion formulation of 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP), the immediate precursor to serotonin. Developed by Evecxia Therapeutics, EVX-301 is designed to rapidly amplify brain serotonin synthesis and neurotransmission, aiming for fast-onset therapeutic effects. The drug is being developed as a rescue therapy for patients hospitalized with acute suicidal ideation crisis, particularly those with major depressive disorder who are inadequately responsive to first-line antidepressants such as SSRIs or SNRIs. Clinical data indicate that EVX-301 can quickly elevate plasma 5-HTP levels and increase brain extracellular serotonin, as evidenced by neuroendocrine biomarkers (e.g., cortisol rise). Phase 1 trials have demonstrated favorable safety and tolerability profiles in healthy volunteers pre-treated with escitalopram[1][2][3][6].
