Overview

EW-A-401 is an investigational gene therapy developed as a plasmid DNA vector encoding a genetically engineered zinc finger transcription factor. This transcription factor is designed to upregulate the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGF-A), thereby promoting angiogenesis and the growth of new blood vessels. The drug was primarily investigated for the treatment of peripheral vascular diseases such as intermittent claudication and myocardial ischemia. Development was led by Sangamo BioSciences (now Sangamo Therapeutics). Despite early promise in preclinical studies and initial clinical development phases, further development has been discontinued[2][3][4].
