Ex-vivo cultivated allogeneic limbal stromal stem cells are a cell-based therapy for treating limbal stem cell deficiency (LSCD), a condition resulting from loss or dysfunction of epithelial stem cells in the limbus of the eye. These cells are derived from limbal tissue obtained from either living related donors or cadaveric corneal tissue, then cultivated in laboratory conditions before transplantation to the patient's eye. The therapy aims to restore the corneal surface, prevent scarring, and improve vision in patients with bilateral LSCD. The immunomodulatory properties of these cells make them particularly valuable for treating corneal scars and acute chemical injuries of the cornea.
