**Ex-vivo cultivated limbal stem cell pool** is an investigational, allogeneic limbal stromal stem-cell therapy developed by L V Prasad Eye Institute for superficial corneal stromal injury and scarring. The product is generated from serologically screened cadaveric donor limbal-ring tissue, enzymatically dissociated with Collagenase L, expanded ex vivo, and passaged to deplete epithelial cells. In the ExCell Phase 1 pilot study, a suspension of cultured stromal cells was applied to surgically debrided corneal stroma in fibrin glue. The intended regenerative mechanism is restoration of corneal stromal extracellular matrix and collagen architecture, with suppression of fibrotic scar formation, to improve corneal transparency.
