This is an adoptive cell therapy involving the ex-vivo expansion and subsequent infusion of donor-derived gamma-delta (γδ) T cells. Developed by the Chinese PLA General Hospital, this therapy is specifically investigated for patients with hematological malignancies, including acute myeloid leukemia (AML), acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), and lymphoma, who have undergone allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). γδ T cells are unique T cell subsets that bridge innate and adaptive immunity, recognizing tumor cells in an MHC-independent manner. This recognition is primarily mediated through the γδ T-cell receptor (TCR) and the NKG2D receptor, which bind to stress-induced ligands such as MICA/B and phosphoantigens on malignant cells. By utilizing donor-derived cells post-transplant, the therapy aims to enhance the graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effect to prevent or treat relapse while minimizing the risk of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).
