Overview

Ex-vivo expanded effector cells-Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center-multiple myeloma refers to an autologous adoptive cellular immunotherapy investigated by Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for the treatment of multiple myeloma. The therapy involves the ex-vivo expansion and activation of a patient's own cytotoxic T cells (effector cells) to enhance their anti-tumor activity. These expanded cells are re-infused into the patient following autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation (APBSCT), a timing intended to optimize immune reconstitution and induce an effector cell-versus-myeloma effect. In clinical study protocols, this cell therapy was evaluated in combination with Interleukin-2 (IL-2) and Recombinant Human Granulocyte-Macrophage Colony-Stimulating Factor (GM-CSF) to support the survival, proliferation, and functional activity of the infused T cells.
