Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This investigational cell therapy involves the isolation, ex vivo expansion, and subsequent autologous transplantation of regulatory T cells (Tregs) into patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Developed by The Affiliated Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital of Nanjing University Medical School, the therapy aims to address the functional deficiency of Tregs observed in T1DM patients. By increasing the number of functional Tregs, the treatment seeks to restore immune tolerance to pancreatic islets and halt the autoimmune destruction of insulin-producing beta cells. The therapy is currently undergoing Phase 1 clinical evaluation to assess its safety and therapeutic potential.
