Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ex vivo expanded umbilical cord blood is an investigational **allogeneic hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell therapy** developed by Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins for transplantation after myeloablative conditioning in hematologic malignancies. The treatment consists of cord blood-derived hematopoietic cells expanded outside the body to increase the available progenitor-cell dose and support more rapid early hematopoietic recovery, particularly neutrophil engraftment. In the registered Phase 1/2 protocol, the expanded cord blood product was co-infused with a separate unexpanded cord blood unit intended to provide durable long-term engraftment.
