Overview

This cell therapy consists of hematopoietic progenitor cells derived from umbilical cord blood (UCB) that have undergone *ex vivo* expansion to increase the absolute number of CD34+ cells. The primary limitation of conventional cord blood transplantation is the low cell dose, which often leads to delayed neutrophil and platelet engraftment. By expanding these cells in a laboratory setting prior to infusion, the therapy aims to accelerate hematopoietic recovery and reduce the risk of infection and transplant-related mortality in patients with hematological malignancies. This specific investigational program, led by Dr. Avichai Shimoni at Sheba Medical Center, evaluates the safety and efficacy of expanded UCB progenitors in the context of allogeneic transplantation for various hematological disorders.
