EVPOME (Ex Vivo Produced Oral Mucosal Equivalent) is an autologous tissue-engineered graft developed for oral reconstructive surgery. It is produced by harvesting a small biopsy of a patient's own oral mucosa, isolating the keratinocytes, and culturing them on a decellularized human dermal matrix scaffold (typically AlloDerm). This process results in a bilayered tissue equivalent that mimics the structure and function of natural oral mucosa. EVPOME is primarily used to treat soft tissue defects in the oral cavity, such as those following large defect mandibular resection, and to provide keratinized tissue for vestibuloplasty and dental implant rehabilitation. The technology was pioneered by Stephen E. Feinberg at the University of Michigan.
