Overview
Excellair is an investigational small interfering RNA (siRNA) therapeutic developed by ZaBeCor Pharmaceuticals. It targets the signaling protein Syk kinase, a key mediator in the inflammatory cascade. By inhibiting Syk kinase, Excellair aims to block an initial step in inflammation, thereby preventing the release of multiple inflammatory mediators involved in diseases such as asthma and other inflammatory conditions. Unlike treatments that inhibit only one mediator (e.g., leukotriene or TNF inhibitors), targeting Syk kinase may provide broader anti-inflammatory effects. The drug has been studied for asthma and is being considered for other inflammatory diseases including allergic rhinitis, rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and additional disorders[3].
