Excilor

Excilor is an over-the-counter topical treatment designed for the management of fungal nail infections (onychomycosis). Developed by Oystershell Laboratories and marketed by Vemedia (part of Cooper Consumer Health), the product is classified as a medical device rather than a pharmacological drug. Its primary mechanism of action is the acidification of the nail microenvironment; by utilizing acetic acid to lower the pH level within the nail plate, it creates a hostile environment that inhibits the growth and proliferation of dermatophytes. The formulation incorporates TransActive or TransActive+ Technology, which facilitates deep penetration of the active ingredients through the dense keratin of the nail without the need for filing. Excilor is available in several formats, including a solution and film-forming versions (Ultra and Forte) that provide sustained delivery of the treatment for up to 24 hours.
