Exebacase is a first-in-class, recombinantly produced bacteriophage-derived lysin (cell wall hydrolase enzyme) that acts as a direct lytic agent against *Staphylococcus aureus*, including methicillin-resistant strains (MRSA)[1][2][5]. It is characterized by rapid, pathogen-targeted bacteriolysis and potent biofilm eradication. Exebacase cleaves the interpeptide bridge of peptidoglycan in the bacterial cell wall, leading to rapid cell lysis[8]. It has demonstrated synergy with antibiotics and a low propensity for resistance development[1][6]. Developed primarily for serious infections such as *S. aureus* bloodstream infections (bacteremia), endocarditis, osteomyelitis, and other difficult-to-treat staphylococcal infections[4][5], exebacase was being developed by ContraFect under license from Rockefeller University[5].
