Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Exenatide + dapagliflozin is a fixed-dose combination therapy for type 2 diabetes mellitus. Exenatide is a glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonist (GLP-1 RA) that enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses inappropriate glucagon secretion, and slows gastric emptying. Dapagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor that reduces renal glucose reabsorption, leading to increased urinary glucose excretion. The combination provides additive benefits in glycemic control, weight reduction, and systolic blood pressure lowering compared to either agent alone in patients with type 2 diabetes inadequately controlled on metformin[1][4][6]. Both drugs are administered separately but have been studied together in clinical trials for their complementary mechanisms of action.
