Overview

Exenatide-human serum albumin fusion protein (E2HSA) is a long-acting recombinant fusion protein consisting of the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist exenatide fused to human serum albumin (HSA). Developed by Zhejiang Huayang Pharmaceutical, this biologic is designed to overcome the short half-life of native exenatide by utilizing the long circulatory half-life of albumin, thereby reducing the frequency of administration for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. By activating the GLP-1 receptor, it stimulates glucose-dependent insulin secretion, inhibits glucagon release, and slows gastric emptying, leading to improved glycemic control.
