It acts as a **glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1R) agonist**, designed to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus by enhancing insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent manner, suppressing glucagon release, slowing gastric emptying, and promoting satiety. In clinical studies, PF-04603629 demonstrated dose-dependent reductions in blood glucose levels following mixed meal tests and exhibited side effects typical of GLP-1 receptor agonists such as gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea and vomiting). Notably, it also caused dose-dependent increases in pulse rate and diastolic blood pressure within the normal range. The drug was developed by Pfizer for the treatment of type 2 diabetes[1][2][3][4].
