EXG113 is an investigational gene therapy candidate developed by Exegenesis Bio for the treatment of dry age-related macular degeneration (dry AMD). Administered via intravitreal (IVT) injection, the therapy is designed to target and inhibit components of the complement system, which is a key mediator of the chronic inflammation and retinal cell death associated with geographic atrophy in dry AMD. By utilizing a gene therapy approach, EXG113 aims to provide sustained therapeutic effect following a single administration, potentially reducing the treatment burden compared to existing protein-based complement inhibitors that require frequent injections. As of early 2024, the program is in the IND-enabling stage of development.
