Overview

EXG202 is an investigational gene therapy developed for the treatment of wet age-related macular degeneration (wet AMD). It is a next-generation version of EXG102, incorporating the same genetic cargo but delivered using a proprietary ocular capsid that enables administration by intravitreal injection—a less invasive, non-surgical approach compared to subretinal injection. This delivery system has demonstrated a 3- to 5-fold increase in retinal transduction efficiency over existing ocular-specific capsids in non-human primate studies. The therapeutic strategy targets multiple pathways involved in neovascular disease, including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) subtypes A, B, C, D and Angiopoietin 2. Clinical trials are ongoing in the USA and China[1][2][5].
