Exidavnemab is a novel investigational monoclonal antibody designed to selectively bind and eliminate aggregated forms of alpha-synuclein (α-synuclein), a protein implicated in the pathology of synucleinopathies such as Parkinson's disease and multiple system atrophy (MSA)[2][4][7]. By targeting pathological α-synuclein aggregates with high affinity and selectivity, exidavnemab aims to preserve neuronal function and slow disease progression[2][7]. The drug is being developed by BioArctic in collaboration with AbbVie. Exidavnemab has received orphan drug designation from the FDA for MSA, reflecting its potential as a disease-modifying therapy for this rare neurodegenerative disorder[2][4]. It is currently in Phase II clinical trials for Parkinson's disease and preclinical development for MSA[3][5].
