Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EXO-CD24 (CD24 exosomes) is an investigational, inhaled exosome-based immunomodulatory therapy designed to treat hyperinflammatory conditions, particularly Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and cytokine storms associated with COVID-19. Developed by researchers at the Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center and commercialized by Nano24, the therapy consists of human-derived exosomes engineered to overexpress the CD24 protein, a dominant innate immune checkpoint. Administered via a nebulizer directly to the lungs, EXO-CD24 acts upstream in the inflammatory cascade by binding to damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) and interacting with Sialic acid-binding Ig-like lectin 10 (Siglec-10). This interaction suppresses the NF-κB pathway and downregulates the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines without compromising the host's ability to clear pathogens.
