Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EXO PERIO is an allogeneic, acellular exosome-based therapy derived from human umbilical cord Wharton's Jelly mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Developed by Evolutionary Biologics, the product contains approximately 30 billion MSC-derived exosomes per 2cc vial. It is designed to promote tissue regeneration, reduce inflammation, and accelerate wound healing, with specific applications in regenerative dentistry (such as bone grafts, periodontal surgeries, root coverage, implant sites, extraction sockets, and sinus lifts) and general tissue repair. The exosomes act as cell-to-cell communication messengers, delivering growth factors, cytokines, and proteins to stimulate the formation of bone, cartilage, dentin, mucosa, and pulp tissue. In December 2024, the FDA issued a warning letter to Evolutionary Biologics, classifying EXO PERIO as an unapproved new drug and unlicensed biological product due to its therapeutic claims.
