Drug intelligence / Profile preview
EXP-TC is a sustained-release drug-device combination product developed by Eximore Ltd. for the treatment of moderate to severe dry eye disease (DED). It consists of a punctal plug made from a medical-grade composite material that incorporates tacrolimus, an immunosuppressive calcineurin inhibitor, using nano-particle technology. The device is designed to be inserted into the punctal opening of the tear duct, where it provides a dual therapeutic effect: a mechanical blockage that increases the residence time of natural tears on the ocular surface, and the controlled, local release of tacrolimus over a period of up to three months. Tacrolimus works by inhibiting T-lymphocyte activation and the subsequent release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, thereby addressing the underlying inflammation associated with dry eye syndrome. The plug features a 'Pangolin' design with a flattened head to ensure retention and comfort.
