Overview

Expanded allogeneic umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) are an investigational cell therapy derived from the Wharton's jelly of the umbilical cord. These cells are isolated from healthy donors and expanded in vitro to reach therapeutic doses. UC-MSCs are characterized by their potent paracrine activity, secreting a variety of anti-inflammatory cytokines, pro-angiogenic factors, and trophic molecules that modulate the immune response and promote tissue repair. In the context of preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), these cells are administered intravenously to mitigate lung inflammation and support the development of alveolar and vascular structures, potentially reducing the severity of chronic lung disease and associated neonatal comorbidities.
