Extremecare

Extremecare is a topical prophylactic cream developed by the Instituto Brasileiro de Controle do Cancer (IBCC) to prevent hand-foot syndrome (palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia), a common skin toxicity associated with chemotherapy agents such as capecitabine. The formulation contains three active ingredients: Thoitaine (L-ergothioneine), Aloe Vera, and Calendula. Thoitaine acts as a potent antioxidant, while Aloe Vera and Calendula provide moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties. The cream is intended for prophylactic use, applied twice daily to the hands and feet starting from the first cycle of chemotherapy. It is currently being evaluated in the Phase 2 TACX Care trial specifically for patients with breast or gastrointestinal cancer receiving capecitabine treatment.
