Overview

Eyecyte-PRP is an allogeneic cell therapy candidate composed of induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived photoreceptor progenitor cells. Developed by the Indian biotechnology company Eyestem Research, it is specifically designed to treat Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), a group of rare genetic disorders that cause the progressive degeneration of photoreceptor cells in the retina, leading to severe vision loss. The therapeutic strategy involves the surgical delivery of these progenitor cells into the subretinal space, where they are intended to integrate and replace lost or damaged photoreceptors, thereby potentially restoring visual function or halting disease progression. Eyecyte-PRP is the second product in Eyestem's pipeline, following their lead asset for Dry Age-related Macular Degeneration, and is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
