Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Eysuvis (loteprednol etabonate ophthalmic suspension 0.25%) is a sterile, topical anti-inflammatory corticosteroid indicated for the short-term (up to two weeks) treatment of the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease. It utilizes the proprietary AMPPLIFY mucus-penetrating particle (MPP) technology, which is designed to enhance the penetration of the active ingredient through the tear film mucus, allowing for improved delivery to the ocular surface. As a synthetic glucocorticoid, loteprednol etabonate acts as an agonist at glucocorticoid receptors, thereby inhibiting the inflammatory response, including the production of prostaglandins and cytokines. The drug was developed by Kala Pharmaceuticals and was the first FDA-approved ocular corticosteroid specifically for the short-term treatment of dry eye disease. In 2022, the commercial rights were acquired by Alcon.
