Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ezetimibe + simvastatin Laboratorio Farmaceutico C.T. is a small molecule combination drug developed by the Italian pharmaceutical company Laboratorio Farmaceutico C.T. for the management of dyslipidemia and hypercholesterolemia. The product combines two lipid-lowering agents with complementary mechanisms of action: ezetimibe and simvastatin. Ezetimibe selectively inhibits the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and related phytosterols by targeting the Niemann-Pick C1-Like 1 (NPC1L1) transport protein. Simvastatin is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin) that suppresses the endogenous synthesis of cholesterol in the liver. By addressing both the absorption and production of cholesterol, the combination effectively reduces levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides while increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. This product is an approved generic version of the branded medications Vytorin and Inegy.
