Drug intelligence / Profile preview
F-18-labeled aniracetam analogs (such as fluoroaniracetam) are positron emission tomography (PET) radiotracers developed by the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine for brain imaging. These compounds are fluorinated derivatives of aniracetam, a well-known nootropic drug and positive allosteric modulator of AMPA receptors. The development of these tracers involves different radiolabeling strategies, such as nucleophilic substitution of a tosylate precursor to extend the alkyl group on the aryl ether with fluorine-18, or copper-mediated fluorode-stannylation to incorporate fluorine-18 directly onto the aryl ring. These tracers are designed to evaluate AMPA receptor density and distribution in the central nervous system, although their brain uptake is highly sensitive to the specific physicochemical changes introduced by the radiolabeling process.
