Overview

F13-PEI1.8k-1 is a fluorinated derivative of low molecular weight branched polyethylenimine (PEI, 1.8 kDa) developed as a high-efficiency vehicle for gene and siRNA delivery. The F13 designation refers to the degree of fluorination, where fluorinated alkyl chains are conjugated to the PEI backbone to enhance transmembrane penetration and endosomal escape while minimizing the cytotoxicity associated with higher molecular weight polycations. This delivery system utilizes the proton sponge effect and the unique hydrophobic and lipophobic properties of fluorous chains to facilitate the intracellular release of nucleic acid cargoes. It is primarily utilized in preclinical research for targeted gene therapy and RNA interference applications, particularly in oncology, where it has demonstrated superior transfection efficiency compared to non-fluorinated counterparts.
