F373280 is a novel small molecule pro-drug designed to deliver docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) via oral administration. It is a monoester formed from pantothenic alcohol and DHA (molecular formula C31H49NO5). Developed by Pierre Fabre Medicament, its primary indication has been for the maintenance of sinus rhythm after electrical cardioversion in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation and chronic heart failure. Preclinical studies demonstrated that DHA reduces the duration of atrial fibrillation induced by burst pacing in animal models. The drug exerts antiarrhythmic properties by interacting with electrical and structural remodeling processes in the atria. Clinical trials have shown that after oral administration, no circulating levels of F373280 are detected—confirming its role as a prodrug for DHA[1][2][5][7].
