F511 is a topical antiperspirant cream containing aluminum chlorohydrate as its active ingredient. It was developed by the Swiss Group for Clinical Cancer Research (SAKK) specifically to prevent or reduce the incidence of palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia (PPE), also known as hand-foot syndrome, in patients undergoing chemotherapy with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (PLD). The rationale for its use is based on the observation that high concentrations of doxorubicin accumulate in the eccrine sweat glands of the palms and soles. By mechanically blocking these sweat gland ducts, F511 reduces the secretion of sweat containing the chemotherapeutic agent onto the skin surface, thereby mitigating local tissue damage and the resulting skin toxicity.
