Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**FA-FE-SBA15QN** is an experimental, folic-acid-functionalized, magnetite-embedded SBA-15 mesoporous silica nanoparticle formulation loaded with the flavonoid **quercetin**. It was designed as a pH-sensitive, folate-directed nanocarrier for colorectal cancer, with magnetite providing magnetic-resonance-imaging contrast potential. In HCT-116 colorectal carcinoma cells and CT-26 tumor-bearing mice, the formulation produced tumor-suppressive effects associated with reactive-oxygen-species generation, mitochondrial apoptosis, JNK-mediated H2AX phosphorylation, p53 signaling, and inhibition of heat shock protein 27. It is a preclinical theranostic nanomedicine and is not an approved medicinal product. ([pubs.rsc.org](https://pubs.rsc.org/az/content/articlehtml/2020/ra/d0ra00664e))
