FA-Hep-CuS is a multimode photothermal agent consisting of copper sulfide (CuS) nanoparticles deposited on heparin-conjugated folic acid (FA-Hep). Developed by researchers at Texas A&M University, FA-Hep-CuS is designed for the targeted photothermal therapy of cancer, particularly triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). The folic acid component targets folate receptors overexpressed on cancer cells, while the heparin conjugate improves biocompatibility and stability. Upon activation with near-infrared (NIR) radiation (808 nm), the CuS nanoparticles generate hyperthermia to ablate cancer cells, demonstrating dose-dependent cytotoxicity, inhibition of cell motility, and suppression of clonogenicity in aggressive breast cancer models.
