FA-PAMAMG2-MCS is a multifunctional, magnetic, and pH-responsive nanocarrier developed for the targeted delivery and controlled release of chemotherapeutic agents, specifically doxorubicin (DOX). Synthesized by researchers at Islamic Azad University, the nanocomposite is fabricated by grafting a generation 2 poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM G2) dendrimer and folic acid (FA) onto a magnetic chitosan (MCS) core-shell surface. The folic acid moiety enables active targeting of folate receptors, which are frequently overexpressed on cancer cells, such as the human breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231. The magnetic chitosan core provides superparamagnetic properties, allowing for potential magnetic-field-directed targeting, while the pH-sensitive nature of the nanocarrier facilitates accelerated drug release in acidic tumor microenvironments compared to neutral physiological conditions.
