FABP3 inhibitors are a class of small molecule research compounds that target Fatty Acid Binding Protein 3 (FABP3), also known as heart-type FABP or H-FABP. These compounds bind to the fatty acid binding domain of FABP3 and are primarily investigated for their potential to inhibit alpha-synuclein (αSyn) oligomerization and cellular uptake, which are central to the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease and other synucleinopathies. In oncology, FABP3 inhibitors are being studied for their ability to disrupt lipid trafficking between tumor-associated myeloid cells (TAMCs) and treatment-resistant persister cells (TRPCs), particularly in glioblastoma (GBM). Artelo Biosciences is a notable company developing a portfolio of selective and pan-FABP inhibitors for cancer and other indications, while academic research groups at Tohoku University and the University of Tokyo have developed pyrazole-based FABP3 ligands for preclinical research.
