FACOS

FACOS is an investigational chitooligosaccharide (COS) product derived from the enzymatic or chemical degradation of chitin or chitosan. Characterized as a low-molecular-weight biopolymer, it is designed for high absorbability and low toxicity. Developed and evaluated by Eulji University Hospital in South Korea, FACOS is primarily positioned as a functional food ingredient or nutraceutical. Clinical research in healthy adults has focused on its potential to modulate immune function, specifically by stimulating cytokine production in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), and its impact on cardiovascular health markers, including lipid profiles and arterial stiffness. Its biological activities are attributed to the inherent properties of chitooligosaccharides, which include antioxidant, antimicrobial, and angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory effects.
