Factor IX complex concentrate is a plasma-derived biologic consisting of a combination of vitamin K-dependent coagulation factors. It is a purified, sterile, lyophilized concentrate containing coagulation Factors IX (Christmas Factor), II (Prothrombin), and X (Stuart-Prower Factor), with some formulations (4-factor PCC) also containing significant levels of Factor VII. It is primarily indicated for the prevention and control of hemorrhagic episodes in patients with hemophilia B (congenital factor IX deficiency) and for the urgent reversal of acquired coagulation factor deficiency induced by vitamin K antagonist (e.g., warfarin) therapy. In surgical settings, such as neonatal open-heart surgery involving cardiopulmonary bypass, it is used to manage dilutional coagulopathy. The medication works by restoring the levels of these essential clotting factors, thereby enabling the coagulation cascade to proceed and form stable fibrin clots.
