Overview

Factor-rich plasma (FRP) is an autologous biologic therapy consisting of a concentrated solution of growth factors derived from a patient's own peripheral blood. Developed by the Instituto de Investigación Sanitaria de la Fundación Jiménez Díaz, it is primarily investigated for the treatment of diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) and premature ovarian insufficiency. The preparation involves the activation of platelets to release a cocktail of regenerative proteins, including vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF). When injected intraovarianly, FRP is thought to enhance the ovarian microenvironment, promote neoangiogenesis, and stimulate the activation of dormant primordial follicles, potentially improving oocyte yield and pregnancy outcomes in women with low reproductive potential.
