Overview
Faecal bacteriotherapy solution (FBT) is an investigational microbiome-based therapeutic consisting of a standardized 350 ml preparation of mixed transplantate derived from the feces of seven healthy donors. It is administered via rectal enema to restore intestinal microbial diversity in patients whose gut microbiome has been disrupted by antibiotic use. Developed in the context of academic research at Charles University and supported by the Donatio Intensivistam Endowment Fund, FBT is primarily investigated for the treatment of postantibiotic diarrhoea in critically ill patients, including those with Clostridioides difficile infection. Unlike commercial live biotherapeutic products, this solution is a complex community of donor gut microorganisms rather than a single-strain or defined-consortium product.
