Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Fagopyrum esculentum extract refers to preparations made from various parts (leaves, flowers, hulls, or sprouts) of Fagopyrum esculentum, commonly known as buckwheat. These extracts are rich in flavonoids (notably rutin and quercetin), phenolic acids, and other phytochemicals. Buckwheat extracts have demonstrated multiple biological activities, including **antioxidant**, **anti-inflammatory**, **antitumor**, **antidiabetic**, **hepatoprotective**, and **vasoprotective** effects. Their mechanisms of action include scavenging free radicals, modulating inflammatory mediators (such as IL-6, TNF-α), improving oxidative stress status, inhibiting tumor cell proliferation and inducing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in cancer cells, and enhancing vascular function. Buckwheat extracts have a long history of traditional use for conditions such as **varicose veins**, **hypertension**, **poor circulation**, **radiation damage**, and **gout**.
