Overview

FAHF-2 (Food Allergy Herbal Formula-2) is a Chinese herbal medicine formula developed for treating food allergies. It consists of 9 herbs derived from the classical Traditional Chinese Medicine formula Wu Mei Wan, which dates back approximately 2,000 years. The formula has shown promising results in both animal studies and human clinical trials. FAHF-2 is a 9-herb formula based on Traditional Chinese Medicine that has demonstrated the ability to block peanut anaphylaxis in murine models. It has undergone several phases of clinical trials to evaluate its safety, tolerability, and efficacy for treating food allergies. The formula works through multiple immunomodulatory mechanisms, including suppression of inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IFN-γ, IL-17, IL-6), reduction of IL-5 levels, and inhibition of basophil activation. In clinical trials, FAHF-2 has been found to be safe and well-tolerated, though the high pill burden (36 pills daily) led to compliance issues. This prompted the development of more concentrated versions: B-FAHF-2 (butanol purified) and E-B-FAHF-2 (ethyl acetate butanol purified), which reduced the required dosage to 10 pills daily. The formula has received FDA investigational new drug approval for clinical trials in both food allergies and Crohn's disease. Studies have shown that FAHF-2 and its purified derivatives have immunomodulatory effects that may benefit patients with multiple food allergies and inflammatory bowel conditions.
