Overview

FAK siRNA is a small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to specifically silence the expression of Focal Adhesion Kinase (FAK), a non-receptor tyrosine kinase encoded by the PTK2 gene. FAK is a key regulator of cell adhesion, migration, and survival, and its overexpression is associated with tumor progression and metastasis in various cancers. In research settings, FAK siRNA is used as a tool to investigate the functional role of FAK in signaling pathways, such as the FAK/Src axis. For instance, studies in endometrial cancer cell lines have demonstrated that knockdown of FAK using siRNA can abolish kisspeptin-induced phosphorylation of FAK and Src, leading to the inhibition of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) activation and a subsequent reduction in cell motility and invasiveness.
