Overview

Fam3b is a cardioprotective therapeutic candidate being developed by Forcefield Therapeutics for the treatment of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and the prevention of subsequent heart failure. Identified through the FunSel screening platform in collaboration with King's College London, Fam3b is a secreted protein that protects cardiomyocytes from death following ischemic injury. Its mechanism of action involves the activation of autophagy, prevention of cardiomyocyte apoptosis, and inhibition of cardiac fibrosis through the suppression of TGF-beta signaling. The development program encompasses two modalities: a recombinant protein therapeutic intended for acute administration immediately following a heart attack, and an alternative AAV-mediated gene therapy approach being explored in partnership with Freeline Therapeutics.
