Famzeretcel is an allogeneic cell therapy consisting of human retinal progenitor cells (hRPCs) expanded in vitro. It is primarily developed for the treatment of retinitis pigmentosa (RP), a degenerative retinal disease characterized by the progressive loss of photoreceptors. The therapy is designed to be administered via intravitreal or subretinal injection, where the progenitor cells function by secreting neurotrophic factors that rescue dying photoreceptors and potentially integrate into the retinal architecture to restore visual function. The program has been advanced by **jCyte** (as jCell) and **ReNeuron Group** (as ReN003), with jCyte focusing on a minimally invasive intravitreal delivery method that has reached Phase 2 clinical evaluation.
