FAP immunosuppressive CAR-DC (iCDC) is an experimental cell therapy being developed by the Second Affiliated Hospital, School of Medicine, Zhejiang University. It consists of dendritic cells engineered to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) targeting Fibroblast Activation Protein (FAP). This therapy is specifically designed for the treatment of end-stage dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Unlike traditional CAR-T cell therapies that are typically designed for cytotoxic depletion of target cells, this 'immunosuppressive' CAR-DC approach aims to modulate the immune environment and target FAP-expressing cardiac fibroblasts, which are primary drivers of pathological fibrosis and cardiac remodeling in heart failure. By targeting these cells, the therapy seeks to reduce fibrosis and improve cardiac function in patients with end-stage disease.
