Drug intelligence / Profile preview
FAP-specific CAR-T cells are chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells engineered to target fibroblast activation protein alpha (FAP), a cell-surface serine protease highly expressed on activated fibroblasts, including cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in the tumor microenvironment and active cardiac fibroblasts in fibrotic tissues. By targeting FAP, these CAR-T cells selectively deplete FAP-expressing cells, thereby remodeling the extracellular matrix, reducing tissue fibrosis, and disrupting the supportive stromal network in solid tumors or fibrotic organs. This therapeutic approach is being investigated for the treatment of various solid tumors (such as mesothelioma, pancreatic cancer, and glioblastoma) as well as non-oncological fibrotic conditions, including myocardial fibrosis and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
