Overview

Farletuzumab + paclitaxel is an investigational combination therapy evaluated primarily in women with platinum-sensitive relapsed epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, and primary peritoneal cancers. **Farletuzumab** is a humanized monoclonal antibody targeting folate receptor alpha (FOLR1, FRα), which is overexpressed in most epithelial ovarian cancers but minimally present in normal tissues. **Paclitaxel** is a microtubule inhibitor (antineoplastic agent) that disrupts cell division by stabilizing microtubules, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Clinical studies have tested farletuzumab combined with paclitaxel (often with carboplatin) to determine if the addition of farletuzumab can improve response rates and duration of remission compared to chemotherapy alone; however, large phase III trials did not show a statistically significant improvement in progression-free survival for the addition of farletuzumab to standard regimens. The combination has been generally well tolerated, with no significant additive toxicity reported[1][2][3][4][5].
