Overview
FaroClav ER is an extended-release oral antibiotic formulation developed by Faromed for the treatment of various bacterial infections. It is a combination of faropenem, a penem-class antibiotic, and clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Faropenem works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), while clavulanic acid protects faropenem from degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria. The extended-release (ER) formulation is designed to provide sustained therapeutic drug levels, potentially improving efficacy and patient compliance compared to immediate-release versions.
