faropenem

Faropenem is an orally active broad-spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic of the penem class. It is structurally related to carbapenems but classified as a penem derivative. Faropenem exhibits potent antibacterial activity against a wide range of aerobic and anaerobic Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, with particular efficacy against drug-resistant staphylococci, enterococci, and Bacteroides species. Its mechanism of action involves high-affinity binding to bacterial penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), leading to inhibition of cell wall synthesis and resulting in bactericidal effects. Faropenem demonstrates strong stability against beta-lactamases produced by various bacteria and has a lower propensity for resistance development compared to other oral antibiotics. It is primarily indicated for infections caused by susceptible organisms including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, reproductive system infections, biliary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections (including pediatric indications), among others[3][5][6][7][8].
